Volunteer with us at our community allotment
Spinningfields proudly launched a community allotment that’s nestled in Hardman Square.
The patch, fondly named The Little ‘Lot, grows a variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers, including broad beans, tomatoes, blackberries and onions, to name a few!
A wonderful way to rewild your soul and reconnect with nature, The Little ‘Lot is looked after by a wonderful group of green-fingered volunteers all year round. It’s FREE to take part.
All are welcome to join in at The Little ‘Lot. There are sessions from 12pm – 1pm on select Fridays, beginning 19 April. All equipment is provided. We advise volunteers wear suitable clothing, including closed toe shoes, long trousers and a sunhat. Anyone can take part. To do so, simply email info@spinningfields.co.uk with the dates you’d like to attend. Coming up we have availability from 12pm – 1pm on Friday 19 April, Friday 3 May and Friday 17 May.
In addition, companies at Spinningfields have the exclusive opportunity to reserve sessions for their staff on select Tuesdays, beginning 23 April, offering a wonderful CSR initiative for team-building. For more information please email info@spinningfields.co.uk.
If it’s your first time volunteering, you’ll be asked to sign a short form. If you can’t attend a session on a particular date, please just let us know in advance so that we can open up the volunteer spot to somebody else.
Occasionally our photographer will pop by and capture shots of both the allotment as well as our volunteers in action. If you don’t wish to be in photos, please just let her know when you arrive. The photos will be used on our website and social media channels. In addition, Spinningfields’ head gardeners, John and Vanessa, will be at each session to offer tips, tricks and techniques to volunteers as well.
Spinningfields is committed to helping end homelessness in Manchester. The produce grown is donated to local soup kitchens as well as to the in-house café at Back on Track, a charity that helps people rebuild their lives after homelessness.
In addition, Spinningfields supports The St. John’s Homelessness Initiative which actively provides inclusive job opportunities as well as raises funds and awareness for Real Change MCR – a central fund that allocates money to various homelessness initiatives and schemes across the city, that all actively help people build independent lives away from the streets. This might include paying a deposit for a home or clothes for a job interview. There’s a QR located on a sign at the allotment for people to directly donate to Real Change MCR
