The Manchester Duck Race is back in 2017, with its biggest race to date!

Join us for the city’s favourite family day out on the banks of the River Irwell this Good Friday for the 8th annual Manchester Duck Race.

The Manchester Duck Race sees thousands of rubber ducks race down the river – it costs £1 to buy a duck and enter it into the race – with all proceeds going to local children’s charity Brainwave, who work hard to help children with brain injuries benefit from a range of educational and physical therapies across the country.

With over 25,000 visitors expected, the duck race celebrations will be spread across both sides of the River Irwell with Spinningfields and New Bailey coming alive with family activities, fairground rides, a petting farm and much more.

Also taking place on the day is a corporate race, in which local businesses sponsor and decorate large rubber ducks. Entrants to the corporate race are encouraged to be as creative as possible when decorating their ducks, but are not permitted to make any changes that give their duck an unfair advantage! Last year, Eison’s duck ‘Tim Beake’ won our social media competition for Best Dressed Duck, and was given some out of this world encouragement on Twitter by British astronaut Tim Peake.

Carole Headley, Development Manager for Brainwave, said: “We are delighted to be bringing the race back to Manchester and to have Bathroom Takeaway as our sponsor for the second year running is absolutely fantastic. We can’t thank them and our event partners Spinningfields and New Bailey enough for their ongoing support.”

Free to attend, the fun starts at 12pm and the first race will commence at 2pm with surprise celebrity guests announcing the winners.

Beat queues on the day and purchase your £1 ducks online, where you can also buy £250 corporate ducks.
