In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Spinningfields has commissioned various public art displays to explore love and heartbreak in the city.
Interwoven amongst varying urban backdrops of granite, glass and wildflower, a series of neon light installations shall illuminate the surrounds of Spinningfields throughout February – each designed to punctuate and enliven the cityscape via arresting public displays of affection that radiate positivity, love and light to the people of Manchester.
The first of two compositions designed by Neon Workshops, both of which are lyrical expressions of love and heartbreak, will go live on Hardman Square on 6 February. The second installation will go live on 13 February.

As part of their campaign, Spinningfields will also be working with a number of Manchester creative personalities to launch #lightheartedloveadvice.
Asking for lessons on the currency of love and heartbreak, the neon grand gestures aim to launch a city-wide love story that transcends family love, friendships and relationships big and small, fleeting and forever, loved and lost.
Alex Webb, Spinningfields Associate Director: “We are incredibly excited to have collaborated with Neon Workshops in what is guaranteed to be an Instagram hotspot in Spinningfields this Valentine’s Day.’
In addition, on 11 February, a re-imagining of the Heart of Manchester – a much celebrated 2018 hit whose original concept was created by artist Stuart Langley – will pulse again from the Quay Street façade of No.1 Spinningfields – visible across the evening skyline, the best vantage point being Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink station.

The public display of neon affection follows on from a successful programme of Spinningfields events as part of their ongoing commitment to the creation of an inspiring, dynamic and interactive environment for residents, workers and visitors. Most notable 2018 activations include the Pride Paintbrush, Summer Screenings and Bar Hütte.
In addition, Spinningfields and Heart offered the chance to win a romantic dinner for two. Prize includes dinner and drinks at Australasia, a beautiful bouquet from David Wayman Flowers and treats from Hey Little Cupcake! Competition has now closed.
