The Alchemist has stopped serving straws with drinks from their bar, in a policy designed to cut down on the amount of plastic disposed of in the ocean.

Over the past 25 years, straws have continuously been one of the top 10 items found on beaches around the world during the International Coastal clean up project.

With 10 sites across the UK including Spinningfields, The Alchemist’s policy to cut back on providing straws as standard could reduce the amount of non-recyclable plastic that ends up in the ocean by around 200,000 pieces a month.

Straws will still be available on request.
